Sadly, time constraints at the Crematorium Committal Service have meant that it is not possible to read and do justice to the beautiful reflections, so lovingly written by Simon’s sister Angela and brother James. So, with their encouragement and blessing, these contributions will be posted onto Simon’s Tribute page

Similarly, the Eulogy, (Denis) Bidding Prayers and Contributions (Linda & Sarah), read at the Services,  will  be available  to view  on the Tribute page  -  under Stories.

The Music will be uploaded to the Music section.

Please do upload any photos, thoughts or stories that evoke special memories of Simon for you.

Programme

Music at the Church service

1    "Lighten our Darkness”   -    John Rutter    –    Sung by the Fourth Choir

Simon’s wife Sarah sings in a semi-professional Choir called The Fourth Choir. Simon was bowled
over when he heard them sing at their Christmas concert in 2019. He really wanted them to sing at
his funeral. So, here is a live recording of a religious song for the service, recorded during lockdown
restrictions, socially distanced and wearing masks. https://youtu.be/saK8atPShwc

2    "Pie Jesu”   –  by Faure   -   from Faure’s Requiem. Sung by Sarah de Winter
During lockdown with Simon, Sarah recorded this at home for a choir project.

3   "May the Road Rise to Meet You”    –    sung by Celtic Thunder

Simon really embraced his Celtic heritage on his mother, Linda’s, side of the family. Whenever
Simon was off on a long tour abroad - Linda would text him with this Celtic Blessing (the original,
shorter version). It was her way of wishing him well for the journey. Simon, being Simon, always
managed to text the most loving replies in response, no matter how busy or tired he was. It seems fitting
now, to wish Simon well on his final journey. May the road rise to meet you, Simon.

2   "Deep Peace"    –    by John Rutter    -    performed by Libera, https://youtu.be/8qvMFlL62XA

3   "Into the West"    -    Annie Lennox   (Conducted by Howard Shore)    from “ Lord of the Rings.

These books and films were a great favourite of Simon’s. During the summer months,
when it was too hot to be outside, Simon asked Linda if she would like to watch the final film with
him. At the end, Frodo is nearing his time on earth. Gandalf (for those who know the film) takes
Frodo by the hand and leads him on to the ship - which is heading out “Into the West”. This
composition is brilliantly sung by Annie Lennox (a favourite of Simon’s). Both Linda and Simon were
moved to tears by it. Simon commented on how beautiful the music, lyrics and symbolism were.

4   “Sleep" - by Eric Whitacre
Simon was proud of Sarah for being part of the Fourth Choir, who sang this at Holocaust Memorial
Day 2020 at City Hall, broadcast on the BBC. He really wanted the choir to sing this at his funeral.
