Simon was the most generous, kind, fun person. Every time we hung out we slipped into easy conversation, no matter how much time had passed, and I never once heard him raise his voice or get irritated about anything—not even how many glasses of wine I had until 3am in the living room! And absolutely no one could cook a Sunday roast like Simon. His easygoing charm sent an infectious good mood around the table whenever he entered a pub. I will miss him very much. My love and hugs go out to Sarah. The warmth that Simon gave to the world will burn now inside you my dear friend.

Miles (my husband and Simon's cousin-in-law I suppose) was telling me of a time he met Simon in a pub in Auckland for "a quick pint" one evening. Laughter was had, tales of tours past were told, and by the end of the night Simon was at the centre of a large group of people from all walks of life who had been drawn in by his charm, wit and ability to tell a good yarn.
Simon had the unique gift of making anyone feel at home in his company. Our two young girls at the time were constantly in giggles around him, clambering all over him. He was such a hearty chap, all round good egg and the best tickly climbing frame!

Simon, life granted us but one encounter, the day you sang ( The Nineteen Arches) for your Grandfather Michael.
You touched our hearts that day, and you will continue to do so through the memories of everyone who were
blessed by you.
